I made these cookies following the recipe except I added 1/4 cup dried cranberries and 1/4 cup chopped walnuts. Turned out very good. I wish they had a nutrition information how many calories etc. are in each cookie.
I like that it makes a small batch, and fairly healthy as far as cookies go.

  2. Joe

Tried them on a whim as I have no butter or margarine actually pretty good not alot of flavor bit its also an oatmeal cookie. Really nice consistency soft and tender with a light crust. I doubled the recipe and made larger cookies made just over a dozen and mixed with a wooden spoon bit of work but didn’t take long. Definately recommend its a great recipe for a cookie base to try things with they almost border on a hermit cookie follow it as is give it a try then adjust to taste.

  3. Chrissy

I found the end result to be quite dry and unpleasant. Followed recipe exactly, unfortunately, not one I will repeat.

  4. Loretta Wright

Great recipe for a small batch! Made them exactly as instructed, disappeared in minutes!

  5. Linda

These cookies are soft but taste like a dog biscuit. Very bland and tasteless. On a positive note, my shin tzu loves them and the batch only made 12 cookies.
There’s a great oatmeal cookie recipe on the Quaker oatmeal box and I’ll be sticking with that recipe in the future.

  6. Karen

I made these today. very good. very easy and you can add so many extra ingredients to them….. I put some cereal flakes in with them and coconut and applesauce, so I could cut down on some of the oil… mine were all organic.

Thank you for sharing this recipe.

  7. Justme

I made these with olive oil because that’s what I have on hand. I used spenda instead of sugar (pre diabetes). Thank you so much for a cookie I can eat in a small batch.

  8. Carlene

Made oatmeal raisin cookies using SOUR COATED raisins , coarse ground pecans no butter just applesauce – Also can use SWERVE brand artificial sugars . Use lots of raisins !!!

  9. Cheryl

Followed the recipe as written. Turned out great. My husband said he did not need milk to wash them down. His version of a compliment.

    • Karen

😆 it was because of this comment that I had to make these today. My husband loved them as well.

  10. Landon

Great cookies didn’t use raisins and still turned out amazing.

  11. Kelly

Super easy and delicious! I didn’t realize we were out of butter and came across this recipe. Followed exactly, turned out great!

  12. Danny

Holly I agree as I don’t always have vanilla but I always have honey on hand I’m gonna try this out as well good luck sweetheart!

  13. Danny

How rude of you to say that your recipe is way better than Jenny’s and post it on her website .First of all you haven’t any manners and are obviously seeking attention typical traits of a narcissist! And the thought of adding mayonnaise to Jenny’s perfect recipe sounds disgusting as many of us don’t even like mayo in a sandwich much less thrown into a cookie ick you are a nut bag ,get some class and learn some manners and post your stupid comments on your own website.!

    • J Dog

Made some gangster cookies with her recipe, except I switch-a-roo the baking soda with some good ol’ baking POWDER (the cooking powder, not the fun kind. If you know what I mean 😉

I put some peanut butter in it instead of rasin for them extra gains.

      Good stuff mama Jenny

  14. Rose A

Doubled the recipe, but used dried cranberries that I had on hand. Came out great! Will definitely make again.

  15. LM

Hi how would I make a crispy or crunchy oatmeal raisin cookie during my husband prefers these and I’ve been looking for an easy recipe.

  16. Cookielover33

Loved this recipe I they were soft and crumbly out the oven so just make sure to let them cool first 😅 also if you put cinnamon and peanut butter replacing the raisins they also taste bomb 😋

    • Danny

Sweethearts I didn’t have raisins so to this marvelous fantastic, recipe I added a third of a cup of peanut butter and 1 tablespoon cinnamon this recipe is amazing especially since it doesn’t require butter wich I didn’t have on hand.I will use this recipe and add walnuts and raisins.Thankyou for this easy to follow perfect oatmeal cookie recipe it’s so great to because you can add a multitude of goodies to customize it such as cranberries, nuts, dates, chocolate or carob chips, and just imagine these with A handful of butterscotch morsels thrown into the mix WOW!

  17. Shep

Just leaving a comment for a bit of humour. Thanks Jenny for the recipe… I found it doing a google search for “oatmeal cookies no butter” because I am feeling snacky and have no butter.
To everybody who looks up a recipe then DOESN’T FOLLOW IT AT ALL on the first try and then “reviews” it by telling us everything you changed – you’re insane. All of you! LOL What is the point? Why did you look up a recipe if you’re not going to follow it? LOL

    • Denise

I have often wondered the same thing LOL

    • Dale

I never understand the comments that list all the changes people make. I’m looking for reviews of the recipe as written.

  18. San

Best oatmeal cookie I’ve ever made. Fudged a little on brown sugar by adding more, added 1 T cinnamon, 1/4 t of baking soda and 1/4 t kosher salt. Bake time 16 min @ my old oven. Leave to cool. Crisps up nicely! 👏💕

    • Shep

LOL Don’t say it’s the best recipe and then share how you completely changed it! LOL Try the recipe as written, then review it. Otherwise your review is nothing to do with the recipe.

      • Danny

SHEP,comments are a place to come together sharing thoughts and suggestions and we can do anything we want. You are not our boss you are a control freak with a narrow mind .life is alit more fun when you experiment and if you find something wonderful sharing is caring so loosen up and go with the flow you may learn something .life’s an adventure dive in and enjoy I wish you happiness and joy!!!

  19. Novice Baker

Great recipe for novice bakers! I didn’t have all of the ingredients but wanted to give it a go, so I substituted baking soda for baking powder, used mostly butter instead of oil, and I didn’t cream the butter and sugar because I didn’t have a beater and it all still produced tasty and chewy cookies. I included half a ripe banana for added sweetness.

  20. Kallie

These cookies were delicious when cooked right!! First batch I accidentally read the cook time as 18 min instead of 14 🙁 but I remade them and they were delicious!!!!

  21. Donna

best I have ever made, Not too sweet. My husband and I devoured them. I left out raisins. but rolled the 2 inch balls in coconut. so easy with mixer.

  22. Donna

best I have ever made, Not too sweet. My husband and I devoured them. I left out raisins. but rolled the 2 inch balls in coconut. so easy with electric mixer.

  23. Eric

Made this With avocado purée in stead of oil and banana instead of sugar. Was amazing

    • Sylvia

Hey Eric, sounds pretty good. How much avocado puree and banana did you approximately use?

    • Lindsey

Thank you for your comment! I never thought of using pureed avocado, and it worked out great.

  24. onarock

after reading the comments I was so excited to make these simple cookies. As I do not have a lot of energy. They were the blandest most boring cookie I have ever tasted. I had to add more flour because they were not sticking together. I sprinkled some cardamom on top of each baked cookie just give them a bit of flavour. FYI vegetable oil is not a healthy oil.

    • Michael

I use Avocado oil or hemp oil or even coconut oil or better still, Olive oil.
I read some of the posts & one man in particular showed he knows what hes doing, here is a quote from his own post worth considering. I dont use vegetable oil either.
      QUOTE ” Eric

I hope this helps cause it looks fairly simple & clean & both substitutes are jam packed with nutrients so technically we can take this old treat & turn it into a wonder cookie 😀
      Cheers 🙂

    • Donna

Hi onarock. Yes they are bland and not too sweet. That is why I liked them. Great with coffee. Try adding cinnamon. They set well with me as I have some digestive issues. I rolled them in coconut. next time im going to try adding nuts and crasins. Good luck..

    • Danny

ON A ROCK,What a befitting name for someone who is ignorant and I’ll mannered .These cookies are healthy and if you use your imagination can be modified any number of ways substituting healthier oils like avocados or coconut oil and incorporating a ripe banana in place of half the sugar and then if you want some pizazz or additional texture try adding your favorites ,chocolate chips carob nibs, butterscotch morsels nuts dried fruits roll then in coconut.Sweetheart oatmeal is a rather bland food but can be embilished a number of ways to bring about a cookie that satisfies and is healthy for you good luck and try these again .

    • Jenn

Well she said avocado , so there’s that .

  25. Valerie

    So good

  26. Jacqueline

My husband is obsessed! Thank you for this awesome recipe and making me a wifey of the year!

  27. Nana

These cookies are literally the best I’ve ever made! I love baking with healthy oils instead of butter. Oatmeal raisin cookies are my GS and Husband’s favorite and THIS recipe is the best I’ve ever found! Such a hit!

I love your recipes Jenny! Love your videos! You are so informative and love how conscious you are about healthy ingredients and healthy versions of otherwise unhealthy recipes!

And how funny you are…has to be mentioned 🙂

    Thank You!

    Nana from🇨🇦

  28. Margie

I just made these. Didn’t have vanilla so I just used maple syrup. I use this a lot instead of vanilla. Cookies were really good 👍🏻

  29. Angela

I used surgar instead of brown. Sugar had no vanilla used peanut butter too they came out good.

  30. Mirabel

Super easy and turned out amazing. Chewy as promised. I added a handful of dry blueberry and chocolate chips. This is a keeper 🙂

  31. Ccore

Thanks Your Cookie recipe is perfect. We are mostly a no sugar household, finding something that’s not overly sweet is hard at the store. These came out perfect !! They are not too sweet but taste great! Love this recipe!!

  32. lance

hey me and my daughter were going to make the cookies, but realized that we are out of vegetable oil, but have olive oil. will that work as a substitute?

  33. Anonymous

I wanted an applesauce cookie without butter and used 3/4 instead of 1/2 cup of flour. I also wanted to experiment with the ice cube tray hack. Would the cooking time be different?

  34. Cat R.

    Delicious!!!
I seriously needed to go shopping, so I’m so glad I found this recipe with no butter! I had to substitute a few things, though. I substituted the vegetable able oil for safflower oil(I was out of canola), I had to make my own brown sugar(cane sugar + molasses), and I omitted the raisins. They still turned out great, though! I got 12 cookies out of this recipe. I took them out of the oven 3 minutes ago and called my family of 4. Let’s just say there are no more cookies. 🙂
    ~Cat R.

  35. Lena

Thank you, Jenny, for the recipe! The cookies came out awesome! The sugar was perfect (I don’t like too sweet cookies). I used whole wheat flour, made 8 cookies, baked on silicon mat 13 minutes, they were perfect! The bottoms were so clean, not dark which is a case with many cookies (I really don’t like when the bottom of cookies is really dark). And the taste was absolutely delicious!

  36. val

I will make today, was looking for oatmeal cookie recipes w/o butter,
comments and cookies look great gotta try, val

  37. Elizabeth

I shorten the baking to 12 minutes so they stay moist longer; and I use whole wheat or white pastry flour which makes them more tender and moist.

  38. Vivian

Can I replace butter with milk? I want it to be very soft but might not tolerate butter since I’m lactose intolerance.

    • Jean M

Butter doesn’t have any lactose, milk does. I used grapeseed oil and they came out great.

      • Simple Simon

Butter does in fact have lactose in it considering it’s a dairy product- just low enough amounts that people who are lactose intolerance can USUALLY eat it.

      • Jenn

Butter is made with milk. From cows. . Which has lactose .

    • Danny

      Vivian,did you read the ingredients listed this is a no butter recipe,isn’t that wonderful for the many who are lactose intolerant I wouldn’t suggest adding milk .Just follow Jenny’s recipe and Wow is all I can say they are an absolute delight they bake to a perfect texture.And as you see by the comments many substitutes or additions can be made to this perfect recipe so have fun add nuts ,dried fruit ,carob or chocolate chips ,roll them in coconut,add chopped dates,or my favorites chopped apricots and butterscotch morsels you can also use any of a number of fabous oils such as coconut,hemp seed oil,flax seed oil,avocados,olive oil,and you can try different sugars including ripe banana or stevia just use the proper ratios as suggested.We can thank Jenny for A perfect recipe that allows us to customize it and personalize it to our liking !!;

  39. Kelsey

Hmm.. these are less soft and more chewy. Also I said hey, why not substitute some peanut butter for the oil? What a big sticky mess that was… be warned. Overall tasty and healthy.

    • Danny

Kelsey,if you like chewy try baking these for 11 or 12 minutes instead of 14 and if you flour your hands before handling the dough even after incorporating peanut butter you shouldn’t have a big sticky mess you can even dip a spoon in flour if you prefer to spoon your dough onto a cookie sheet instead of hand forming balls .!!

  40. Cheryl

Where have these been all my life? Perfect amount for one person to be tempted with; delicious!

  41. Tim

These are delicious! Turned out fantastic! Wish I had doubled the recipe. 🤣

  42. Bunni

The Best Recipe I’ve found and I’ve seen a lot they were super easy to make, I didn’t have a hand mixer or measuring cups and they still came out soft and tasted so yummy. Thank You Ms. Jenny

  43. Anne Henderson

    Great cookies, Love them.

  44. Cookie craver

These were great! i used 5 Tbsp of white sugar instead of brown sugar and chocolate chipss instead of raisins. Its just what I had on hand and it worked out! Easy peazy. Thank you for the new favorite recipe!

  45. Deepa

Very easy and delicious recipe. Thank you!

  46. GailP

Help! I could eat the whole batch! This is the best oatmeal cookie I’ve ever had in my life. I did add 1/4 cup walnuts and 1/4 tsp. cinnamon and shaped them to look like Jenny’s before baking. Jenny has the best recipes for everything and I have made dozens her recipes. I’m going to give 1/2 to the neighbors right now so we don’t eat them all!!!

  47. G

I made these today by replacing the brown sugar with coconut sugar and using coconut oil. I didn’t have any vanilla extract, so I replaced it with honey and they turned out great; I’m very happy with them! Thank you for the recipe!

  48. Michelle

I made this today. I used 1/2 of oat flour and 1/4 cup all purpose flour and 1/4 cup of oats, skipped the raisins replaced it with cocoa nibs. It turned out great! Thanks for the recipe!

  49. Ida

I made these cookies with coconut oil and regular white sugar (5 tablespoons, I thought I had brown sugar but I didn’t.) I also added a 1 tablespoon of raisins and chocolate chips, scooped it out with a cookie scooper and made exactly 15 small cookies. They didn’t flatten but came out looking like macaroons. They turned out very good. Will keep this recipe but next time I’ll flatten them a bit before baking. Thank you for sharing the recipe!

  50. Madina Sabri

It wasn’t soft but I kind of like crunchy cookies! I used coconut oil and added chocolate chips! Very delicious!

  51. Kristen

I have made this recipe three times during quarantine! My family absolutely loves it. I can’t wait to try your other recipes!

  52. -I dont want my name leaked-

    My cookies arent soft.

    • Lena

I made 8 cookies, flattened them, baked on a silicone mat 13 minutes and they came out very nicely soft and delicious!

    • Danny

To the weirdo who “doesn’t want their name leaked”your not that important first of all no one cares what your name is and second you have no manners and are lacking any etiquette the best advice is if you’ve nothing nice to say then say nothing! With that said you either didn’t follow the recipe or you overbaked them because this is a perfect no fault recipe If it’s followed correctly this is a recipe that is fail proof and comes out exactly as it’s described !!

      • Jenny (not the publisher)

Danny why are you such a bully on a recipe comment thread of all things?!?!

  53. Alexandra

I’ve been looking for a relatively simple and quick oatmeal cookie recipe for a while now and these fit the bill perfectly!!! I made the “half butter-half oil,” chocolate chip version of the recipe, skipping the vanilla as I had none, and they were excellent. Thank you so much!

  54. Slick

Awesome. Took up baking during quarantine. Didn’t have any vanilla extract Honey works great.

    • Holly

Did you use honey in lieu of vanilla? That is so neat if so! I’ll have to give that a try sometime!

  55. Elizabeth

Very quick and easy to make, here at a small summer cabin without an electric mixer. (I used a whisk.) They are rather dry, though baked exactly 14 minutes, probably because of the fat being oil (I used light olive oil) instead of butter.

    • Brenda Anderson

I used olive oil but have gas stove and only cook 10 minutes they were perfect !!!

  56. Mani

Loved the cookies. This was my first time to bake. The cookies turned out very well and soft. I used 1tsp maple syrup instead of Vanilla (did not have one), Use 2 tsp of chia seeds in stead of raisins (picky kids), and substituted 1/3 cup of almond flour and 1/3 cup of all purpose flour for 1/2 cup of all purpose flour.

    Thank you for your recipe.

  57. Timothy Gilbert

Great recipe fast easy and all there is to it..
i used 2 teaspoons and made teaspoon sized balls and placed 2 inches apart. They melt right into place.. I also used EVOO and it worked wonderfully.. No cholesterol no saturated fat just plain old fashioned goodness..

    • Barb

I used EVOO too and put raspberry preserves in middle before baking!

  58. Rebekah

Does anyone else use a cookie scoop and have issues where the cookie doesn’t spread out. It basically cooks like a big round ball, reminiscent of a scooped macaroon. Not that they taste bad, but they look like cookie balls, not flat cookies. Thanks for any input

    • jessy

      Hey Rebeckah,
I find what works best is to just roll them in balls and they are perfect then

    • Lena

I flattened my 8 cookies to almost the size they came out, baked 13 minutes and they came out soft and great!

  59. Luna

My husband (a.k.a. Mr. Super Picky) loves these cookies. I stumbled on this recipe looking for a butter free oatmeal cookie due to his heart issue. I am so glad I did. I add toasted pecan pieces. So delicious.

  60. Emily

Why should we not over bake

    • Jenny Can Cook

Over-baking will result in a drier, harder cookie and these are meant to be soft.

  61. David

I tried it but I didn’t have all purpose flour so I used self rising flour I came out really good

  62. Alondra

I made the cookies and they came out really good I was not expecting such great cookies thx for the recipe.

  63. Shannon

These cookies turned out really good and I loved the texture. I changed the recipe a bit though. Instead of rolled oats and cinnamon I used 1 + 1/4 cup of maple brown sugar oatmeal I had in packets. I baked with apple spice packets before so I though I would try it and I loved it.

  64. Patti Voss

I doubled the recipe. Used a little maple syrup for part of sugar. Added a little more flour to make up more added liquid. I used mix of olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil. Delicious

  65. Carrie

I’m sold on this recipe and so is my fussy hubby who, by the way, went back for seconds. Lol. I followed the recipe exactly as is and was happy with how it turned out. Not greasy or overly sweet like other recipes I’ve tried before. Will be making these again soon. Thank you for sharing it.

  66. Hjg

Thank you for the recipe. These are as close I’ve ever been able to come to my mother’s widely loved oatmeal cookies (she’s not one for writing down measurements). I’ll be making these often. I highly recommend the addition of 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 cup chopped walnuts.

  67. Lai

Just made last night and I love them. I didn’t have any raisins or anything to substitute them. But they are still amazing.

  68. Kevin from Maine

Very tasty and Nice texture! I substituted raisins w/ dried cranberries and put a pecan half on the top– my teens Loved them!

I think the next batch I will delete the vanilla and add a little pure Maine maple syrup– maybe delete one tablespoon of the brown sugar.

Thanks so much for posting this recipe– A TRUE BLESSING DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC!

    Kevin from Maine

  69. Beatrice

Just made these and they are so yummy! Chewy and soft and not too sweet–perfect combination. I used golden raisins and filtered coconut oil instead of vegetable oil, substituted 1:1.

  70. Chrissy

Wonderful! I’ve baked two batches in two days adding dried cranberries and dark chocolate. Great instructions!

  71. JR

Loved these and hubby did too! I had run out of butter so these were perfect. I used gluten free flour, almond milk and added a bit of cinnamon too. I actually added kumquat purée as well and they turned out amazing. Subbed chocolate chips for the raisins. Thanks!

    • JR

Actually no milk…was thinking of another recipe from dinner lol.

  72. Deb D

I was craving a sweet quick treat. I had no butter in the house so I’m glad you used the oil. I have no brown sugar so used regular sugar. They came out puffed and light and delicious. Not overly sweet

  73. Lucy Cowan

Just made my second batch as they’re a great treat for my 2 year old ! I subbed raisins for choc chips.
This time I split the mixture into around 15 not 9 and I preferred the bake at 360F for 14 mins ! Thanks for the super easy and yummy recipe! Happy baking 🙂

  74. Janie Hines

I just made batch number two. I added a little white sugar to sweeten them a bit. These are so good and easy to make. I can’t imagine they’re overloaded with calories. ??

  75. Krystal

My cookies came out chewy but kinda dry I dont know why? And they aren’t very sweet kinda bland.

  76. Kali

My cookies came out perfect . I used quick oats for mine’s without raisins . They’re all gone !!

  77. Nick Thompson

I made these cookies using mayo cuz I had no eggs and even though they are cooling down, these are way better than Jenny’s cookies! 10/10 2 thumbs up and 5 stars and 5 mics from The Source Hip Hop Magazine to!!!!

    • Danny

Dear NICK THOMPSON, You are a perfect example of A narcissist boasting about your accolades from a fifth rate magazine I’ve never even heard of that awarded you five stars well here I’m giving you zero stars and 5 thumbs down as you are ill mannered to have posted a comment here bragging your cookies are better than the creator of this perfect recipe on her own website.you have a severe personality disorder and the manners of a pig at feeding time.Additionally to the many that don’t even like a dollop of mayonnaise smeared on a sandwich the thought of adding mayo to a cookie dough is disgusting! Your cookies are certainly not as delicious as Jenny’s and your comments are disengenuine and show a complete lack of basic manners.!Back to charm school for you I’m afraid 😟

      • danny hater

danny back at it again.. its a cookie recipe calm down bud

  78. Joann Rullo

I would like to use coconut oil? They are baking now and part of the batch I added peanut butter I’m anxious to see if they come out. Thanks for a healthy heart cookie, which is what we need.!

    • Branka

I used coconut brown sugar for my cookies, and boy were they yummy!

      • Danny

Branka ,what a great suggestion I found coconut sugar at my local 99 cent only store and have been waiting for the perfect recipe to use it in .And I am going to follow your suggestion .I imagine when substituting coconut sugar for
Sugar it’s 1 to 1 ?Does anyone know if my assumption is correct!!

    • Danny

Sharon, what a great idea to make these for a grab and go healthy breakfast food adding nuts, and cranberries I tried this out and added cashews chopped and dried chopped apricots .Isn’t it awesome to find a recipe like this one if Jenny’s that you can embelish and personalize to your liking.Im going to make a batch with coconut chips and dark chocolate and call them mounds oatmeal drops.Thank you for giving me the idea to make these for a quick breakfast .!

  80. Vickie

Tried today. Very good. Didn’t add raisens hubby won’t eat!
To add a little brown sugar sprinkle on top lije gramma did would be great!
Soft, flavor is good and I had no issues with cookies flattening out too much.

  81. Julia

Easy, quick and yummy…..I made 1 dozen with this recipe, perfect for me and my husband, until my “adult kids “ tasted them! What can I say Jen, from dinner to desserts, your recipes are delicious! Making them for years and will continue for many more. I DO MISS YOUR VIDEOS, LOVE THEM!

  82. Kelly

I would like to substitute with whole wheat flour. Do liquids need to be increased?

  83. Dewa

I made these cookies and my husband went crazy for them. I added the walnuts and chocolate chips, its a great tasting and fairly healthy recipe! It is definitely going in the recipe collection! Thank you for posting, lots of love from Toronto, Canada!

  84. Mariposa

MariposaYour presentation is fantastic your videos are self-explanatory and excellent please keep them coming

  85. Georgie

Can you use quick oats for this too?

    • Johnny

I’m sure you can. Measure the quick oats and hold back adding your own sugar if your oats are already sweetened. I have some maple and brown sugar packets I am going to make the cookies out of.

  86. TIS HERSELF

So glad I read your note at the beginning of the recipe!
My granddaughter is allergic to all milk proteins except for Coconut milk.
So I am always looking for subs for butter and margarine. I will try avocado oil next time. Does this work in chocolate cakes as well?
    thanks

    • WHP

You can use apple sauce instead butter or oil with cake mixes. Ratio is 1:1 (use the same amount of apple sauce as you would oil or butter.)

    • Timothy

Extra virgin olive oil is best and they turn out wonderfully.. I also make a 2″+ ball and spread apart equally. I also bake 16 mins for a darker crunchy cookie.. They are yummy in milk..
