Crispy and Soft Croutons

I use my own no knead bread but you can use fresh Italian bakery style or ciabatta bread. I always cut the whole loaf into cubes and freeze. It works with frozen bread cubes too. - Jenny Jones

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 18 minutes

Total Time: 23 minutes

Makes: about 30-40 croutons

Crispy and Soft Croutons

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of cubed fresh crusty bread
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • freshly ground pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375° F. (I use a toaster oven)
  2. Place bread cubes into a bowl or plastic bag (a produce bag is good).
  3. Add oil, salt & pepper. Toss/smoosh to coat.
  4. Spread on an ungreased or parchmnent paper-lined baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 15-18 minutes or longer until the edges are toasted.
  6. Remove croutons to a plate to cool before serving.

    Hi Jenny,
    I don’t know why I can’t think up to do all the things you do. These turned out great in my toaster oven and I used them to make a panzanella salad. Keep your wonderful recipes coming! Thanks for sharing
